Default Zimbabwe's army seizes power, targets 'criminals' around Mugabe

Quote:
HARARE (Reuters) - Zimbabwe’s military seized power early on Wednesday saying it was targeting “criminals” around President Robert Mugabe, the only ruler the country has known in its 37 years of independence.
Quote:
Soldiers seized the state broadcaster. Armored vehicles blocked roads to the main government offices, parliament and the courts in central Harare, while taxis ferried commuters to work nearby. The atmosphere in the capital remained calm.

The military said Mugabe and his family were safe. Mugabe himself spoke by telephone to the president of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, and told him he was confined to his home but fine, the South African presidency said in a statement[

It's mot a military coup it's a government coup ... President for life Mugabe sacked his vice president not for life Mnangagwa and started all of this:

http://www.cnn.com/2017/11/14/africa...uct/index.html

Quote:
The developments came after weeks of political turmoil, in which Mugabe sacked his powerful Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who enjoyed wide support in the military and was tipped to become the next leader. The move fueled speculation Mugabe would try to install his wife, Grace, to succeed him.
The first signs that a military intervention was underway came Tuesday afternoon as tanks were seen near the capital.
The situation escalated with the early morning announcement, when Maj. Gen. S.B. Moyo addressed the country on state TV, vehemently denying the operation was a coup.
"To both our people and the world beyond our borders, we wish to make it abundantly clear that this is not a military takeover of government," he said.

So there could be soon room for the next criminal to bleed out the country and kill millions. Maybe a worthy successor of Mr. Rhodes?

Mr Mugabe, 93, has dominated the country's political scene since it gained independence from the UK in 1980.
I predict it won't go on much longer....

37 years at the helm.
I wonder what took the military so long.

Too early to say.

Quote:
Mr Mugabe's appearance at the graduation ceremony made it look like business as usual but it's not. This has simply added to the confusion about his future.
The military has essentially been in control for three days and, with the help of South African envoys, has been in talks with Mr Mugabe.
This cunning and experienced leader has resisted the push to go immediately but he is facing unprecedented pressure to step down after nearly four decades in power.
