Default Preview: first addon for SBP to be released in September

Quoting Ssnake word by word:

Noticeable new features will be
  • Strv122 (Swedish Leo 2A5), still somewhat prototypical but a nice addition to
  • CV-9040, the world's most heavily armed infantry fighting vehicle, sporting a massive 40mm autocannon.
It comes with three ammunition types (CV-9040C) - APFSDS, capable of penetrating any MBT even at long range from all aspects but the front, HE/frag for all soft targets, and the "3P" HE ammunition with programmable fuze modes (not available in the CV-9040A/B).
  • Mounted squads can now open hatches, look and fire out of them. This will increase the overall protection of IFVs and their spotting capabilities.
  • Infantry can now occupy buildings, and fight out of them. We expect this to make urban combat much more lethal against AFVs.
  • RB57 and TOW-2B top attack missiles.
  • Infantry can now be equipped with remotely controlled unmanned ground vehicle (UGV). It can drive up to 300m from the squad that controls it, has an elevatable sensor mast with daylight and thermal camera, and is quite small.
  • Leo 2A5 driver's place now equipped with rearward driving camera.

My copy arrived last weekend, so I’m new to sim and new to the community. Is this going to be an add-on that has to be purchased or will it be rolled into a patch/download?

They separate patches and addons.

Pathces repair broken things with already existing stuff. so far, there has been two patches. Early CDs need both patches, later CDs only the second. Patches are free.

The addons will be charged from some time on in the future. But this upcoming on is free. They said that at least until into 2007 addons should remain free. There is no news on the second addon (content and date). maybe the second one will be free, too, if they release addons twice a year, maybe the third and all following will have to be purchased. However, they also said they plan to keep the prices reasonable.

See the interview with Ssnake (SBP ressources sticky on top of the thread list)

What makes you think that the LAV-25 and M113 isn't already included?

These vehicles are not documented and have no tutorials, since they were part of the Australian upgrade of SBP. They also combine TC’s and gunner’s positions. Additionally to 3 height levels of viewing from the turret, the 25 has a GAS with zoomable daylight and TIS display, whereas the PC has a separate CWS for the machine gun. Both vehicles have a driver’s station, simplified.
For full vehicle list, see chapter 8 of my review at www.tanksim.com (to be found under "Review" in the left menu).
