Use virtual machine with win7/xp or better still just install win7, as sub command/dw do not work with win8/8.1

that's weird, because there are some people that says it runs OK in W8, and downgrading is not really an option for me

You don't have any old computers or old operating systems/licenses laying around?

Instructions on how to get VB working with sub command:
- install VB.
- create a system on it (10GB virtual HDD, 2 cores, 2GB RAM and max visual memory).
- install XP or win7.
- now the important bit, install the extra tools with graphics emulation stuff, the image of those is in your virtual machine.
- install sub command and enjoy it.

If all else fails I can make a tutorial video but I would rather not.

Or do that.

VB is fine for sub command, as sub command is not very demanding.

Ive asked this same exact question back a few months ago and got only one response which did not work for me. Im glad to see you get so many replies. I guess ill just follow yourr thread and see. Only thing is I dnt have winxp and cant seem to get it anywhere from friends family. I have old copies but the keys dont work nor do the ones I have found online. Itrs very frustrating because i luv this game. I have an old system but once again the keys dnt work. Any help would be appreciated. Installing on my old pc is not really an option for me because i want it on my new laptop so I can take it with me when travelling and to have it all on one system.

Can anyone post a valid key or link where ican find "VALID" key for win xp?

Thank you

I would try setting your screen and graphicscard/chip configuration to non-widescreen resolutions. And play around with the colordepth: 16, 24 or 32 bits colors.

+1 for 16-bit color and windowed. Since you can't get into the game, you'll have to edit the dangerouswaters.ini file to change it to windowed (it has to be in a window for 16-bit color). I can't remember the line off the top of my head. I can get it when I get home or someone else feel free to add it.
