Can you inhibit enemy vessels from attacking?

I'm working on a training mission and was wondering if there was a way to flag certain units to not fire or engage (in other words just be passive sitting ducks.) I was wondering if the "Entry Date" data might be used but so far have failed to make it work. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Theres none that I know of, either in SH3 or 4. It's not to say that they do not exist, but I don't know of anyone who ever found it necessary to use such a code. Way back when I first began playing, starting with the training missions, I simply took my lumps until I began to get better at evasion than the AI was in hunting me down while honing my own hunting skills. Here at SUBSIM, if anything, players and modders demand even greater realism and toughness in completing missions. The stock versions of these sims are actually fairly tame once you master basic evasion manouvres and serve as great learning platforms for the mods players will attach later on that will jack up the skill levels and intensity of the sim.

Thanks Friscobay...
Actually, I'm creating a training mission for Zero AOB attacks and I want only my sub to be able to attack the oncoming Japanese destroyer. Currently all other allied vessels in range attack the destroyer as well, but I'd like to retain them (eye candy) in the training mission.

Unless you can get a state of peace instead of war the eye candy allied ships will only complicate the training. If the idea is to make the destroyer come at you so you can fire down the throat shots he pretty much has to be hostile anyway.

To reduce his effectiveness you could right click on him in the mission editor, select properties, and change the crew rating from the default VETERAN to POOR. If you want to keep the US ships but not let them sink enemy ships you could change their crew rating to poor as well, but again it's only gonna complicate things with random distractions. My Gone Asiatic career mod does that on purpose for the "chaos of battle" effect so you never know what's going to happen but for a training mission you need more predictability.

there is a setting you change in the ships data to tell it which side its on, I think side 1 is friendly and side 2 is enemy.

I don't know if you can do it from mission editor but after its created open the mis file and make the changes

Thanks Sniper and Webster, appreciate the replies.
FYI I've kind of come around to Sniper's idea of crew effectiveness which still allows a certain amount of "fog of war" feel. I'll check out the "side" code as well.

Default Just an idea...

Is it possible to set the date of your scenario to before Dec. 7/41?

I know that the convoy training mission in SHIII is pre-war, and the destroyer and escort will ignore your sub until you actually attack. Might work in SH4 too.
