Hi silentway
Try this fix!
Right click on your SH3.exe
Go to Properties
Select Compatibility Tab
Run the ‘Compatibility trouble shooter.
Your system will now start investigating for any problems.
You may be asked to ‘test the program’
If you are offered this option then accept it.
Hopefully the outcome will be successful.

Default no graphics

Hi Herbster,
No luck! Troubleshooter tried several different configurations, but still no display. If I remove Ahnenerbe's d3d9.dll I get the 1024x768 screen, but the game plays. I really like Ahnenerbe's GUI and at 1920x1080 it's at another level.
Too bad about the driver issue, I don't know if there is a work around unless I put the game on another computer system loaded with XP or Win 7 (I own both OS's) and try to keep Microsoft at arms length so they won't change the driver like they did on win10.
Thanks for your help and advice.

Well, that is positive news as I would say it rules out any driver issues.
It would appear if the game runs in stock then it is not a Direct X problem.
We know the stock game default resolution setting is 1024 x 768 with an aspect ratio of 4.3 which is why you get the bars down the sides.

I take it you are using the correct version of Ahnenerbe wide screen mod the one known as 'final'.
Ahnenerbe's mod when used in LSH3-2015 is never fully wide screen unlike the LSH3-2015 widescreen mod which is.

It could be a resolution size in the d3d9 config settings.
Check the display height, it should be greater than 1024, probably 1360.
It could be a resolution size in the SH3 main cfg file video settings.
This should represent your monitors resolution or close to it.

Hi TheBerbster,
-I am using the correct version of Ahnenerbe's GUI (Final).
-The d3d9 config file settings, with Ahnenerbe's mod, are 1920x1080.
-The SH3 main config file video display setting is 1024x800. I have
bumped this up to my 'real' screen resolution of 1920x1080 but as long as
Ahnenerbe's d3d9.dll is loaded in the SH3 folder there is only a black
screen, but with music. Without Ahnenerbe's d3d9.dll the program loads,
but the resolution is 1024x768.

I will try the following: I will delete the current video driver and then load a video driver 378.92 (Nvidia) that I know, and you say works.
Reboot the system
Go to SH3.exe properties and confirm Win10 loaded its own video driver. If Win10 does load its own driver I will try to roll back the driver to the one I installed earlier.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Looking at this logically it seems to be the wrong resolution.

One tip worth trying is to change the d3dp config to 1360 x768 or 1366 x 768.

Yes, again logically this looks to be correct.

As rolling back your driver you can also update it as well as can be seen in the picture from tutorial post #17

Default It WORKS!

THEBERBSTEr,
This is what I did:
Went to Device Manager, and uninstalled the video device.
Then I loaded the 378.92 driver...and got an Nvidia dialog box...can't load the driver and from me a loud...****!

Before I rebooted I figured win10 was smart enough to find the video card (GT610) and maybe the old, original driver or something I had DL'd before Microsoft issued 382.05.

Rebooted and went to the device manager, and the driver it loaded was from a DL in January (Nvidia 21.21.13.7653) then started SH3. Bingo! It jumped to life in 1920x1080. Closed it.

Then the display changed a little and a moment later Microsoft was back in command and the SH3 display problem returned.

Rollback Driver was not greyed out so I clicked and after what seemed like an eternity my old driver was in place. SH3 worked in 1920x1080.

Once again, thanks.

Hi sIII
It taken a long time to sort the problem out but you got there with your patience and tenacity.

Quote:

Could you just confirm that you uninstalled as in the picture.
Re-booted your system, and used the roll back button?

The problem has always been the 382.05 updated driver.
The question until now was how to resolve this problem.

The point of interest for me is why you could not roll back to your previous driver like I was able to do in about 30 seconds.

For some reason your 378.02 driver was not being allowed to be re-installed which does not make sense as Microsoft before installing updates automatically creates restore points which would save your previous driver.
Was 378.02 hidden behind the roll back but locked out?

The answer would seem to be for those who cannot roll back to their previous driver manually is to uninstall the current incompatible driver, reboot the system, Check which driver is installed and if necessary use the roll back feature.

Unfortunately there is no guarantee that this problem will not occur again in the future if you have the Windows 10 Home Edition as you cannot just switch off Microsoft driver updates unless you make changes in the Registry.

There is a Zipped download with 2 authenticated applications available that can do this automatically for you.
Stop Automatic Driver Updates > Registry Files
1. Turns driver updates off.
2. Turns driver updates on.

Hi Peter,
Rollback was greyed out, nothing to do there.
So, I uninstalled the device.
Tried to load the 378.02 but got the error message...won't load.
Rebooted.
I don't know if 378.02 was somewhere and hidden, but the driver win10 found was an old driver I had DL'd (Jan 2017) and loaded it. I'll let you know if win10 reverts back to 382.05 and if so, whether or not rollback is available.

Thanks for the 'stop automatic driver updates' file.
