Merry Christmas Tojo!

Only thing missing in the second image is one Kinposan and one Nagara.

The Captain and Crew of the USS Grampus would like to wish the citizens of the Empire of Japan a Merry Christmas.

Leaving Pearl with <redacted> aboard for insertion into <redacted> in the Japanese home islands, the outbound trip was largely uneventful. After completing our objective we head back out into the Pacific, as we leave the channel the watch spots 2 merchants closing. We set up and knock them down. Then, being assigned to patrol in the East China Sea, we came across a large number of aircraft on our radar. Clouds of aircraft circled ahead and sound contact was made with the odd destroyer making a break to check ahead of the task force. We moved to position ourselves in the strait at flank speed underwater until dusk before surfacing to avoid the last returning aircraft. Then we periscoped up and sighted it.

2 shokaku, 1 Hiryu, 3 escort carriers, 2 tenders, 3 tankers, 4+ cruisers, 10+ DDs. At 6.6km (sorry I use metric) and 6.3km the two Shokaku sisters were steaming at 9 knots. Set to slow and contact+influence we fired them slow. 3 at the tailing ship and 20 seconds later 3 at the lead ship. We rigged for silent and set course 20km behind us, 1/3 ahead, dive to 80m. The timer went, nothing....

IMPACT! ... IMPACT! ... IMPACT! ... hundreds of guns light up the sky! Alarms all sounding! IMPACT! ... IMPACT! ... IMPACT! ... they must have hit at just the right angle for the fuses to work, I was worried they'd dodge with the speed/timing not just perfect. Another 3min and we hear scraping, oh so much scraping. The flight decks had all been full! 10min.... I'm glad we were leaving the area because the pressure under the sea just erupted. For a solid 2 minutes I hear nothing but explosions and the scraping of metal against the sea floor. Then after another minute a second round! 1/3 of the Japanese fleet carriers on the bottom! The biggest and best she had. MERRY CHRISTMAS AMERICA!

2 days later in the patrol zone I come across sound contacts for about a half a dozen merchants and 3 DDs. I'm laying in ambush, the lead escort is steaming straight for me about 15AOB, I let loose a fish and just manage to detonate off her propellers, she erupts in flames. The convoy begins to scatter and the other escorts bear down. Several fish and a few misses but we manage to damage a few merchants and knock out the other escorts. Surface and destroy!

We complete the rest of the patrol and have a few run ins with some scattered merchants. Being 1941/2 few are armed with much more than an AA pea shooter. I make full use of my deck gun ammo. I've got 1 stern torp and about 60 rounds of AP left... Thankfully I manage to avoid any further action on the way back to Pearl.

I got a ... Victory Cross? Sure, that's a thing I guess. I'm sure the course of the war is totally and drastically altered. heh.

113817GRT!

This was on vanilla though.

New patrol from Surabaya

After missing a task force i couldn't see because of bad storm, decided to cross Moluccan sea where i encountered 2 heavy cruisers...alone but very fast.
Little S class was on its knees trying to reach them, so decided a very long shot on the run...
Probably my best shot ever. 2700m, 15 knots!
Didn't had time for precise calculation.
4 torp launched, 4 hits but one dud...
