How do I stop time compression in time?

Today, I started my first real career of SH4. After two patrols of frigging around, the watch crew finally spots an enemy ship... but my time compression is too high, and it sails right by! Shouldn't a SHIP SPOTTED! DO YOU WANT TO... message appear? I doubt that it was a friendly ship. What time compression should I use when in my patrol area?

Have you set your Documents/SH4/Data/Cfg/main to have:

[TIME COMPRESSION]
TimeStop=0
RealTime=1
LandProximity=64
CriticalDamage=1
CrewEfficiency=128;1
AirEnemyDetected=1
SoundEffects=32
CharacterAnim=16
EnemyDetected=1
RadioReport=1
Particles=8
PrayState=8
HunterState=32
3DRender=32
Maximum=1024

No, I'll do that now. Thanks so much, mate!

You're welcome!

On side note i've choosen land proximity=64 to be able to accelerate a bit when close to coasts...but you can put whatever value you need (1/16/32 ect)
Most important is ennemy detected and air ennemy detected = 1
I've choosen maximum=1024, this way i can't go further with my TC button.
It's important that computer is able to react quickly in any case...

Time compression works by increasing the timestep by which the engine updates the positions of all units. The game does not calculate all the intermediate seconds of time. If you have high time compression set then whatever gets into your 3d bubble might make a large leap deep into your surroundings. Possibly even beyond your location. Which can be deadly if the other unit is unfriendly and has cannons or bombs. Because they seem to be able to respond in the blink of an eye. So, reduce your timecompression if you want to prevent the units from leaping through your environment unnoticed. Or give yourself and your crew a bit of time to react to their presence.

What was the time compression you were using?
I might go as high as 2000 after leaving Pearl but when approaching shipping lanes I back off to 256 or 512max, then no higher than 128 if I'm in a "hot zone". I've never had an issue with TC.

You must realize that part of the realistic sim is the boredom that occurred in real life waiting for an engagement. At least we have TC is the way I look at it. Of course, I'm old and remember when video games were invented.

Thanks for the tip. I usually patrol at 2048x . I guess it's because of the fact that one of my favourite games is Halo, where the average lifespan of people in multiplayer is around 5 seconds . I guess I'm not a patient person!

I just press Backspace when something is near me.

It's worked well for me thus far. *Knocks on wood*

Hmm, I've never had to set anything in a config file for the "auto slowdown" of time compression to kick in when something gets spotted. Mine always drops to 8x when radar/sonar/visual contact is made, and from there I have time to get back to 1x before anything bad happens. Maybe I have an option set for that somewhere and it's been so long I forgot.

I find that usually once I get within 200 miles of a patrol destination, air patrol activity gets so frequent that I can't sustain any extended periods of high TC anyway, at least during the day. Then again I was surprised once to have picked up an H6K almost 800 miles east of Honshu with nothing else around. Once I'm "on station" there's usually enough ship activity to preclude wanting to go too high anyway.

How to slow time to the normal speed when any ship is spotted?
In main.cfg file is only option for enemy spotted ship.

During patrols I have constant situations when my crew say "Ship spotted ..."
but time goes on with super speed.

niceguy, welcome.

ok, you havent said which set of mods you are playing so i suspect you are playing the stock game. the BackSpace key should pause your game in one keystroke.
if you browse to the game root directory, you should see two JPG files for the keyboard commands.
good luck and good hunting.

I use the same. You can see the flutter in the time compression when the enemy is within 20nm and hit backspace to stop the compression.
