Default A few Questions

A few weeks in now, I have a few questions.

(SH5 with TWOS latest version)

1: What are the numbers next to the torpedo solution line?
(Not the round 1, 2, 3, ones I don't use them)
The small numbers that look like this: 03:11 etc....they vary, but always look like a time.

2: After being at sea for 2 weeks plus, the crew morale drops to zero, no matter how many ships I sink, I know all about the chefs special meals and the bosons help, but it reaches a point where they won't even do their special orders. I guess not but, Is your campaign affected in any way by the zero morale problems?

3: Dieter Epp. Has there been a change in his animations in one of the recent WOS updates?
I noticed sometimes he fist pumps and looks like he is celebrating when below decks, I never saw him do that before!

4: One for those with good ears and attention to detail!
The Type VIIB U-boat: Doesn't have the water washing/waves breaking over the deck sound effects like the VIIA does. You don't hear it below decks whilst submerging and surfacing either. Is it a bug with the VIIB?

Think that's it for now, I'll post anymore questions I have here......feel free to add some of your own.

And thanks once again to all the Modders that make all this possible! Im truly addicted!

John.

Estimated torpedo impact time based on your TDC settings (target range, torpedo speed ect) ...

This will happen if you are not managing your crew properly or use their special abilities unadvisedly. Use them smartly and moderately. Some spec. abilities like chief's damage control (repair rate and flooding management) will "drain" your crew so much that it will hardly be restored during that same patrol, so you should better stay out of gun sight. Even if you have performed perfectly after a month or so crew moral (or restfulness or whatever) can went pretty low which means that it is maybe good time to go home. This will restore crew moral for sure...

Crew will sometimes celebrate your recent success or even be angry because of torpedo misses or duds...

I'm aware of that for quite some time. It's probably solvable but I'll have to take a look although the bug had low priority on my to do list...

Thanks for the quick answers Vecko!

Hmmm, must improve my crew management then! I have used their skills at the wrong times on occasions come to think of it. And i guess me shooting at aircraft, and loosing to their aim bot superiority, has caused my poor crew unnecessary stress too lol!

Nice one about the water sounds in the type VIIB, i thought i'd be the only one to notice that, thanks for considering it

Keep up the good work fella

Thanks to both of you for this Q/A I have also wondered about a couple of these things. I was actually going to pose the question on crew morale myself until running across this.

And I have fixed VIIB missing surfacing sounds as well. I'll add the fix in the next update for TWoS. Few sound controllers were missing...

Question: I case the crew morale is low does the sonar man reports somewhat later contacts? Does the watchmen crew reports somewhat later ships and is the XO later able to lock the enemy target which is in sight. What do you think, i thought all this is happening -or iam wrong?

Last Question: Does the status "Battle Stations" F7 takes an effect on crew morale after a while?

I'm not sure that this is the case but again, I've never tested this extensively.

Yes...battle stations will somewhat increase crew moral degeneration rate. You can hover mouse over spec.ability icons to get more info about positive and negative effects of certain ability...

The battle station icon told me that "the entire submarine´s efficiency is increased". Thats how it works, i already know that. But the question was if the crew moral goes down when i use this special abillity very often, Vecko? Do you know anything about that?

I meant the icons in the crew page...

Yes...It will go down at faster rate , depending of ability type...

New question for you old sea dogs!

I'm now in July 1940 (Happy times) I requested Atlantic air Gap again (nothing else available yet) after successfully completing the spy mission the first time.

This time they sent me to: 'Intercept convoy and sink two ships' i got to the x on the map, and hung around for a day or so and only saw 2 Whales.
Then i had one of those convoy reports and went to try and intercept it, about 200-300km away i got a message from BDU saying 'cease all operations, continue on own initiative' that's when i noticed the above objective was in red (fission mailed ) and said complete, even though i didn't see squat or complete it.

I've seen a few posts on here about it, and i know that from TWoS FAQ it says they're not really necessary.....but i'm guessing, and have read, that there is some sort of invisible patrol zone there? Probably 100-200km?
I've got a save from when i arrived that i can reload.

Happy hunting,

John.

As I recall that particular mission I spent around 48 hours within a 35 KM area of the red X before finding the specific convoy in question. Convoy was composed of a couple of troop transport liners and freighters, 5-6 ships total if memory serves me well. It was heavy fog, and precipitation conditions when I completed the mission. I literally had to pull alongside the transports (luckily they were unarmed) and torpedo them from 400 meters or so. They had one small escort only armed with guns. They were on a 90* heading exactly, and moved right through the designated area on the map.

Cheers Wayne, yeah I completed it yesterday after reloading my save from when I arrived.

I drew a 140km circle from the X and stayed within it. About 3 days later I had a large escorted convoy pass through the South East corner of the 140km area, I sank 3 ships from it, 2 large bulk carriers, and a large merchant. ....job done.
