Default Unable to get a detonation.

Hi folks. Awesome community. It's unbelievable how many dedicated folks there are helping improve this game. I'm new here and new to SH 5.

I'm running my first missions and trying to sink some merchant vessels off the coast of england. The trouble is that for that for nearly 12 hours and several dozen salvos every single shot is a dud.

I'm past the point of saying "early war torps were bad" and on the the point of saying "maybe this is a bug".

I am manually aiming. My torps hit the target every time but they all dud. I'm doing it from between 85 - 95 degrees and trying at every depth from 5 to 1 meter. But usually around 2.5 to 3.

I've fired maybe around 40 torps at different merchant vessels. The campaign is set to medium. I am using version 1.2

The only changes I have made are using the SH5.exe patcher from DarkWraith and set it up to use the snapshot from Sjizzle from here http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=205620

Any ideas what i'm doing wrong here? 20 hours of this is making me craaazzyyyy!

Thanks

On a hunch I went ahead and disabled everything under the torpedo section in the generic patcher.

Guess what?

BOOM. Tanker sunk, no duds.

So, one of the options in the generic patcher is causing this. Now it's a question of finding the one that's causing the problem.

Yes the 4th file has 20 torpedo patches that normally I would say should all be enabled without causing problems.

In file 2 you also have Torpedoes Magnetic Detonators set to impact only at game start.

This also appears in TDW's Options File Editor Viewer. Look in the TDC tab and check that the TMD's are set the same way in both.

You're not alone! I've forgotten to set my puppies to magnetic plenty of times! My only other recommendation is to use the shipping log book and try to set the depth to the draft depth of the ship you're going up against. Seems to be to end up doing more damage!

Did you click on the Files= or Notes= of the patches you enabled? Go back and check the torpedo patches. They have Files= and Notes= that you have to follow in order to use the patches correctly. From what you've stated you didn't do the additional steps necessary for the patches to work correctly.

Well m8, I just loaded the snapshot from Sjizzle as I mentioned. That's all that I did. I didn't realize there were any extra steps. I followed this guide

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=205620 and also used his snapshot.

I disabled all of the patches and I am going to try this over. When I open the drop down with the + i see the various different patches. When i open those with the + under "notes" and "Files" i'm seeing "none".. they mostly say "none".. is that normal?

OK, so i think i'm seeing the problem. In the "MODS" folder there are some unzipped files like "all the torpedoes modified for torpedoes failure patches" and "units must use radio" and "ai grew damage control" and "carrier airbase testing".

Could that be the issue? I followed the steps in Sjizzles guide.

So, I think i got it all sussed out. The Sjizzle snapshot had some things enabled that were dependent on mods that weren't installed. I went through and enabled all of the patches that didn't have dependencies and will add the ones that do over time.

Thanks for help.
