Not without protective equipment at all, just not the ballistic plastic armor system like they use now. I feel that a soft helmet and padding might make players less eager to make high speed hits which is what causes most concussions.

Take a look at the gif below.

#34 just runs into the QB at full speed. No attempt to wrap him up and pull him down. He's doing that because he is protected by armor.

With soft pads it's going to be more like this.

See how the tackler tries to wrap his arms around the ball carrier and pull him down instead of crashing into him full speed? Yeah I know he wasn't successful but it illustrates the difference in technique fairly well. This is what I mean. By removing the armor players are forced to grab and pull their opponents to the ground instead of trying to hit them. That might be safer than the situation we have now.

I'm not sure if this is the answer August but it seems as good as any place to analyze and look into and who knows, you could be right and on to something. If you are right and it quickly filters down to school age kids playing football and other sports, than it's a great thing. This is as good an explanation and solution as any that I have heard. Junior Seau and Mike Webster of the NFL are tragic examples of the repeated concussions they both suffered and the repercussions of their hall of fame careers and multiple concussions.

My hope is that Da Bears will perform a little better this season.

Yes, it's just preseason, but what's wrong with this picture?

AFC NORTH W L

Cleveland Browns Logo Browns 2 0

AFC EAST

New England Patriots Logo Patriots 0 2

Could Cleveland go all the way to the playoffs this year?

Dunno about the Browns but Belichick does not play preseason games to win.

Brady at 40 should be at his best ... I hope he doesn't get hurt though.

I'm going to be watching a lot less football due to the price of satellite, but I'll still get four to five games a week with Monday night, Thursday night and Sunday night and two on local channels plus NFL reports and You-tube highlights will give me more than enough football.

I hear interest in football has been going down ... they need to find way to speed up the game with less commercials.

I know it's early and the preseason but i'm thinking in the NFC the GreenBay packers at 2-0 and the Atlanta Falcons at 1-1 should have a good year.

In the AFC, The Patriots should continue their winning ways. The Steelers should be in the thick of things if they can fix their pourus secondary which cost them the AFC championship game last year. Maybe this is the year the Cleveland Browns pull it together. Their fans deserve something of a winning team having supported the Browns for years.

LA Chargers beat the LA Rams by two points 21-19 Saturday and now for the last game of the pre-season tonight on the Fox channel ...

LA Chargers vs the San Francisco 49ers in San Francisco 7pm pdt

One week from today will be the first regularly scheduled NFL football game to be played between KC Chiefs and the New England Patriots.

Hey nikimcbee! Did you want to start your official NFL 2017-2018 season thread now. This is not really my bag ... I just like the Cleveland Browns anyway

Same as last year no NFL live for me.

Two reasons

1. If I wanna follow the team I like more than the others I have to get 3 different sport channels

2. I could get a membership in some online streaming service, where they stream NFL games and you can pick which one you like to see

However-Stories from IRL friends online friends and news article I really don't like these streaming service

Furthermore I'm from the old time-I wanna see the game on my TV not on my computer. It's better to watch it on a 40 " screen than on a 17" screen

Have to read about it in the sport news

Naw historically KC can be a tough opponent especially early in the season. Remember in 2014 they beat us 41-14.

Go Chiefs! My wife is a Patriots fan (because of Hunky Tom Brady), so we had to watch the game on different floors of the house

Oh, and when the Chiefs beat the Patriots on the MNF game 41-14, we were there and that's when Arrowhead broke the loudest stadium record! They were handing out ear plugs when we walked into he stadium.
