Thank you for this! It seems to work perfectly

You, sir, are a genius! After all these years of frustration I've finally got Dangerous Waters working in Windows Technical Preview Build 9860! Your efforts were above and beyond the call of duty and exceeded the highest standards of the Naval service! Thank you! On my NVidia GeForce 650M equipped laptop the game runs just fine with ModeID set to 4 (1600 x 1200 resolution). My other laptop with an Intel HD 5100 Iris Graphics adapter, however, failed to load the game with the following error messages "Failed to initialize the graphics display" and "Context Create Error -2147467259". If anyone has an idea how to resolve this please advise.

Update: I was able to run Dangerous Waters on the Intel HD Graphics laptop after setting its compatibility to Windows XP mode. Thanks again for this great DirectX wrapper!

Confirm that the wrapper works for fullscreen DW. Although it still gives error which is something like "Failed to init graphic display" when trying to run it in windowed mode, any possibility to fix that too?

Komat, you sir, deserve a medal! I've lost any hope to play DW already, and you just saved the day! Good job!

Has anyone tested if it is running under Windows 10?

Don't believe that Windows 10 will change anything with respect to DW. The system architecture is based on Windows 8, not Windows 7,

Wow, was I ever glad to find this thread!

A few days ago I got a hankering for a modern sub combat sim. Dangerous Waters was the only one I could find from the last 10 years (but I could have missed one). Naturally, it didn't work when I first tried it on my Windows 8.1 system. Now it does!

The next thing is to get smart enough with the in-game sonar etc. to actually have a vague idea what I'm doing.

So, I've successfully started DW on my Windows 8.1 machine with that file. Though it has now some cursor tracks in menu, it appears to be stable. Now it's like a five-year long jump back in time Thanks

Seems to be working well for me too on Windows 8.1. The game insists on starting up the Speech Recognition software whenever I try to access the Options menu though.
