Default Graphics Glitch

Intel Sky Lake Integrated Graphics, Intel i3-6100
(PlayOnLinux)

I have a strange glitch which I've tried searching for, but obviously cannot find the right phrase.

This is what I get with smoke (and to a certain extent, the water splash from the bow of the sub).

That is, smoke appears with blocks in it. Interestingly, if I pan up (so that, were I standing on deck I were looking up) the block-type artifacts disappear.

This is not that worrying for me, and I've lived with it for a week or two, just wondered if anyone had seen it before, whether it occurs in Windows, and so on.

Meant to add: I have another installation, also PlayOnLinux and which does not display the artifacts (that, though, is on an NVidia card)

Well, turns out that the DPI scaling is already disabled and that the aspect ratio setting for intel skylake (i915) only works for embedded displays (read portables), so I'll just have to live with it. I'll try fiddling with the PlayOnLinux settings too.

Do you have Vsync on (synchronization in the video options)?

Yes, tried with it both on and off, and with playing with the particle gubbins. I suspect it's a wine / linux / sh3 interaction specific to the intel (embedded) card: I have an identical setup with an NVidia card on a different machine (same Linux version, etc.) with no problems. I can live with it as it doesn't affect the gameplay at all, just looks a little unsightly.
