Well look at the shape of the Bow, curving up and rounded on the sides, those are Kaidai 3a boats from Subron 9 (number on port side of sub in the background), so I might have to check my KD3a tower and change the front part... if you look at the above picture one can actually see the strange tower, with hindsight that is ! though it looks as if the one showing the whole sub has more viewports ?

I've got that nice little book. I've always been amazed over JP sub technology...good thing they used poor tactics. You think they would've come around once they saw what we were doing.
