This painting by Michael Turner shows a British Wessex helicopter 'Humphrey' dropping depth charges on the Argentine submarine Santa Fe. The Santa Fe was badly damaged and had to limp back to port and was abandoned.

This painting by Michael Turner shows the Harriers taking off in the atrocious conditions that were all too common in the South Atlantic.

This painting by Robert Taylor gives an impression of the sizeable fleet assembled by the British. The Argentine timing was terrible as the British had already sold its remaining Aircraft Carriers but had not yet delivered them to their purchasers. It is difficult to see how the British could have achieved the retaking of the islands without the support provided from the Aircraft Carriers.

This painting by Joe Beetham illustrates the fact that the Argentines had surrendered before the British had reached Stanley itself. Therefore, there was to be no street fighting and it was a fairly straightforward advance into the port itself.

The task force and troops returned to a heroes' welcome back in Britain. The political capital saved Margaret Thatcher's government and allowed her to return to a landslide victory in the general election of 1983.

Which, in turn, inspired ADM Yamamoto's 'infamous' emulation of a surprise attack 'awakening a sleeping giant'...:
@ Eichhörnchen : Fresh out of school at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, artist Ron Finger lived in the Twin Cities when he was tasked with depicting Fuchida's bombing run on Pearl Harbor's Battleship Row.... http://www.brainerddispatch.com/news/4174444-painting-day-infamy-baxter-illustrator-recalls-creating-pearl-harbor-artwork
And; an interesting perspective from the other side: http://www.nytimes.com/1981/12/07/world/40-years-later-japanese-pilot-recalls-pearl-harbora.html
Quote:
From his vantage point, Lieutenant Shiga watched the torpedo bombers ''flying very slowly'' far below. They made only 130 knots, moved lower and headed into attack on the moored battleships, ''very slowly.'' He was sure of a perfect surprise attack. Dive bombers launched a concurrent assault on Hickam Field and the torpedo bombers released their weapons. ''The torpedoes also ran very slowly,'' he recalled. ''We could see them running in the water at 30 to 40 knots.''
A total of 2,403 Americans died in the assault. Eighteen ships were lost, including four out of eight battleships. Fifty-four Japanese died. American Firepower... 'Frightening'
''I had already experienced fire from the ground in southern China,'' said Mr. Shiga, who was a fighter ace. ''Compared with the Chinese fire, the American firepower was enormous. The clouds and fire-puffs in the sky looked like a basket of flowers. It was really frightening.''
