Default Quick IL-2 Question

Speaking of IL-2 how do you work the non-reflector gunsights on some of the older planes. Like the Japanese dive bomber, the I-16 and the SBD (Sometimes). All it shows is black in the sight most of the time...

I've only been playing 1946 for a few days but this has been bugging me since I don't see a key command to "open" the sight...

You'll have to assign quite a few commands yourself, things like wing folding, chocks, and that.

I also recommend erm...I'll PM that to you.

You should come join the Lolwaffles sometime, we're in Khalkhin-Gol at the moment working for the Russkies.

Yea I assigned most of the Carrier landing related stuff already, still have a lot to look over in that department.

Thanks for the invite, after I practice more, and get my controls the way I like it I'll be sure to fly some missions with you guys.

Too bad my joystick is shot to hell after all the years of use.

BTW I think the smoke from the stack on the carrier is causing my computer to slow down a lot. Is that a known issue? Or might it be something else, like too many planes?

Not sure on the smoke, it could well be. You might want to fiddle with the graphics settings a bit and see if that makes a difference. Excessive aircraft can also cause lag, but the stock missions shouldn't contain excessive aircraft IIRC.

You might want to look at this article in regards to getting your controls right, it helped me immensely:

mission4today is a great site for, surprisingly () missions and also skins and other fine things. Well worth signing up to.

I fiddled with the graphics taking them from highest to lowest and it still lagged. The situation was 8 SBDs sitting on the deck with another carrier with 8 SBDs. Now I've had dogfights with 24 aircraft in the quick mission games and I don't notice any lag this bad.

Useful to know. My old Wingman Attack 2 is so bad it likes to jump erratically all the time. Oh well I've had it for 10 years, and have played about a billion hours on it.

Yep I registered there a few days ago and got the latest patch.

If you are interested in something more serious (but still lots of fun with a great bunch), I'd recommmend joining http://iijg53.com/

There is a US based Schwarm and when you get 12 or so players working co-operatively it is a very different game. You get lots of support and help in technique as well as learning the Bf-109 pretty thoroughly.

I see,

yeah the CPU and Graphic cards are the bottlenecks when it comes to the smoke particles.

I used to have a 3ghz, 1 gb ram and Geforce 5700LE 256mb

ran IL2 well, thought I didn't had much trouble with smoke stacks from ships but when a big bomb or lots of bomb dropped and I was closeby looking at it...it didn't handle that well either due the smoke it generated.

so if you join us we'll keep in mind not to drop those big bombs that cause a mushroom cloud of smoke...it'll probally cause your system to blow up

I would strongly recommend this useful prog, it gives you many more options to tweak graphics and other stuff with much greater precision and is very easy to use.

Il2 Config 2.55: http://war.by-airforce.com/downloads/il2-config.html

It can be that there is just one little thing that slows everything down. The best way to test your config is to run TheBlackDeath track (look it up in recordings) - when it starts, you press pause then shift-tab (or whatever key opens the console - you can change it in the in-game options) then in the console you type this (case is important!) 'fps START SHOW' then shift-Tab out of the console and unpause the track, this will give you fps-meter at the top of the screen so you can see the difference your tweaking made.
