Default Which sub sim?

Hi all! i'm somewhat of a newcomer here, and I was wondering if maybe some of you guys could give me a little advice here. I had SH4 a while back, and really enjoyed it, but i had to uninstall it due to lack of HD space. Since then my copy of the game has gotten lost, and i'm looking to get back into the sub sim genre. Could some of you give me some pointers on which sim is the best in terms of realism, and graphics? I really enjoyed SH4 along with TMO, and the manual TDC.

I'm really looking to get the highest level of realism possible. would SH5 be a good choice, or should i stick with 4?

Oh, and I do prefer American subs.

Thanks!
Evro

I think you would be better off with SH4, unless you decide you like a german campaign. I can't say much about SH5; they say it has been improved from unplayable to pretty good, but since I don't especially like playing the U-boats, I've never tried it. SH3 is good and has many mods for it, but I can't really say too much about that either.

If you need to get another copy of SH4, be sure to get the 1.5 version, so you can use the latest mods.

I think you'll be best off with SH4 v1.5 and Dangerous Waters.

I'd say Silent Hunter Commander's Edition if you want high realism.

You say you prefer US subs, but have you actually tried the others?

For the cost of them nowadays I'd recommend buying 3, 4 (plus U-boats), and 5. You never know, you may just like them all. Whichever, all are improved with the mods available here.

that's a pretty reasonable suggestion.

I actually will probably eventually at least get sh5. I had sh2 waaay back before i was old enough to really understand the depth of the sim, so needless to say, it sat on the shelf for a while because on my first mission i was sailing around shooting at ships with the AA guns lol. i'm interested in all sides of the war, but i guess i just like to have something close to home too. For instance, i find it difficult even in FSX to fly aircraft with foreign regs unless i'm just feeling adventurous. is that weird? lol
