Default Torpedo Glitch?

So fellow Kaleuns, I just started "The Black Pit" via manual flotilla transfer after automated campaign transfer failure. Not sure if this is important, but worth mentioning since I am back in the Atlantic after a year and a half or so in the med. I have located my first convoy after sinking a lone Egyptian split merchant, and something I haven't seen to date has emerged. On the lone merchant, and now also on the convoy one of my torpedoes has ran out of the tube, (usually the first one fired) and immediately started a circle pattern damn near hitting my precious U-Boot. I also sank two victory cargos in the convoy, and the escorts, nor the convoy reacted at all. The lack of reaction bug I have found before. It has only happened once previously, and once I lined up and attacked a second time the escorts did react. Is this some type of torpedo failure built into the game, or a glitch? Any others experience the non-reacting escorts issue as well?
I am running TWoS 2.1.2 with no other mods, only "encrypted orders" active.

It looks like you need the mod 'Torpedo Circle FIX'. I have taken 2 files from TWoS and replaced them in the game, I cannot give you the file names caus' I'm not on my game computer.

There is a mod for it contained in the FX-Update mod from TheDarkWraith, but it doesn't work well in my experience (torpedos still circling when they shouldn't), so I have taken the files from TWoS which fixed it.

But if you already run TWoS you SHOULDN'T NEED any fix ??? In my TwoS 2.1.0 I haven't any problems. You probably don't run the 'free' sh5.exe, so it's not patched correctly because of UPlay or Steam...That's also the reason why your campaign transfers don't work. Run a completly patched version. You can google that...

Real life torpedo "glitches"...

Quote:
For many years it was recorded, and believed, that U-869 had been sunk off Gibraltar in a depth charge attack, with the loss of all 55 officers and crew.

An unidentified U-boat wreck, dubbed U-Who, discovered off the coast of New Jersey in 1991 was established from identifying items and numbers to be U-869. The finders of U-869 have also provided persuasive arguments that the sinking was due to a circle runner torpedo.

Two other German U-boats, U-377 in 1944 and U-972 in late 1943, are known to have been sunk by circular runner torpedoes.

There's also a documentary about U-869 which can be found on the internet...Cheers!

Yes, torpedo circles are historically accurate, the problem is this routine is broken in the stock game, and still after the patches causing pretty all torpedos to circle. In TWoS this is fixed.
Good job

Hmmmm. Well it's cool if intentionally added, it has happened now twice in a row. I have been from Memel all the way to my current campaign in the Black Pit without having had this occur even once. If I am reading the contributors correctly Xenon seems to be saying it could be a bug, and Vecko is implying that it might be a realism feature added to TWoS content?

I don't think so

Re: Circling torps can't remember experiencing that even with stock game , other than Acoustic Torpedoes or Pattern Search type maybe, but that's not bug although it has been mentioned on another thread a while back . Is this any particular type ? I have come across Destroyers that don't react the Mission Scapa Flow has a couple there. Shouldn't happen too much tho

I actually do... Disabling torpedo malfunctions completely wouldn't be very realistic, especially if we know the fact that those things had happen during the WW2 more than once.

Torpedoes in TWoS are fine, if the game and the mod are installed correctly of course...

Circling Torpedoes are a feature added to WOS ! Really ? Malfunctioning is an altogether different matter

More like fixed and fine tuned by TDW's Generic Patcher and torpedo.sim entries...
You can check Generic Patcher's section for torpedoes and you'll see that it deals with "circle runner" calculations...

I only play with Auto TDC, I haven't seen 1 circling torpedo yet with the G7 first torpedos. But I have a lot to play still...Torpedos will be dud on a good normal rate, some will pass below target if I set depth to close to max depth as for the ID Book.

Hi XS
That is because you have TDW's Generic File Patchers patches + the FX_Update_0_0_22_ByTheDarkWraith mod.
This will stop circling torpedoes, a stock bug from appearing in your game.

I can testify my fellow hunters it CAN happen. When it happened (second time) to me I am silently sitting in attack position about 1500 meters from an escort when all of a sudden if I don't go into flank zuruck I may be hit by my own eel. Scary moment. Made for one hell of an escort evasion scenario as well. First time I was attacking a lone Egyptian freighter, and immediately blew ballast and full speed back. Would rather take a chance with the armed freighter than be hit by my own eel. Luckily the first torp nailed the freighter, and I got out of the way in time. A big shout out to Vecko for all the love put into TWoS
