Default RFB Mod Installation for SH 4 [moved from SHO - HB]

Hello Everyone,

I've been away from sub sims for quite a while now and have decided to get back into the SH 4 as well as downloading and using the RFB mod pack.

Ok now the question I have is this. Do you have to create a folder named "MODS" within your game to download the RFB Mod into then activate your JSGME in order to get the mod "activated" and working properly when applied to the stock version of SH 4 version 1.5 ?? I know this is a simple question for many but I haven't messed around with mods in general before.

I'm using the SH 4 GOLD VERSION with the U-Boat Missions for the game.

Any help would be appreciated thanks !

Welcome aboard!

You don't have to use JSGME at all to load mods. It does make it a whole lot easier, especially since if you decide a particular mod isn't for you, JSGME lets you remove it again with no fuss.

As to your question, when you install JSGME it will make the MODS folder for you. If that doesn't happen the you have installed in the wrong place. There is a simple directive in the readme that tells exactly how to do it.

I think it best if you ensure you have the latest/final version:

Ok thanks for the replies guys. Another question that I have is this. When the RFB 2.0 is activated via JSGME and you click on your desk top icon for SH 4, is there a different splash screen that pops up once the game loads that is different to the stock game version splash screen ?

Ok,

I downloaded the RFB 2.0 as well as the RFB 2.0 patch from 2010 and installed both of those into a "Mods" folder that sits within my Ubisoft folder. I then use my JSGME to activate the RFB 2.0 then the patch second and both are now sitting on the right side of my JSGME window as active.

When I try to click on my desk top icon for SH 4, I see that version 1.5 loads up. I don't see any evidence that the RFB mod and its patch is present. Am I missing something here ? Is there a unique splash screen for RFB that is different from the original stock game version ? Not sure..

Good News ! I had my "Mods" folder sitting outside of my stock game. I moved the folder inside and found the .exe file for SH 4 and double clicked on that and made sure both of my RFB files were activated in order using my JSGME. Game launched and I saw the special splash screen that displays "Real Fleet Boat" loaded up properly.

Man, always something new to learn about using computers.

You can use TDW’Generic File Patcher with STEAM see my Tutorial Post #125

JSGME does not overwrite anything so when you disable your mods your original files are restored again.

Thanks everyone ! I was able to launch a career using RFB and I'm currently lurking somewhere south of Rabaul in my Gato looking for unsuspecting Jap Merchants.

Welcome Eskia.

For your SH4 related questions you will have more luck finding the answers in here:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/forumdisplay.php?f=202

This section you posted in is actually for the latest web-based edition of Silent Hunter. It doesn't have Pacific theater content, and gameplay is significantly different from the previous versions 3,4 and 5.
