Default The weirdest thing happened

I was on my first patrol having bought the game a few days ago and encountered a convoy.

I attacked 2 destroyers thinking it would be better to destroy the escort first. After destroying the first I went to periscope depth and began to attack the second. I looked at the attack map and saw these were the only 2 destroyers guarding the convoy.

As I destroyed the second destroyer my boat (U-52, Type IIC) was suddenly shaken and my periscope destroyed. I was then aware that I had been rammed by a 'phantom' destroyer, that appeared out of know where. I then lost all control of my ship. Massive flooding. Probably no hope. Slowly sinking to the bottom.

Just wondering if anyone else had encountered a 'phantom destroyer'.

It was probably a third destroyer, or one you thought you'd destroyed and hadn't, that blind sided you. I've attacked conveys - and upon first look - thought there was only 2 escorts and later realized there was a third. Sometimes a third escort will be way out of position and unless your sonar man has picked him up, or a watch crew has seen him, they can slip up on you quickly particularily at dusk or dawn or night.
