Icon1 FC Random Crashes with Win10

Hi Everyone,

I'm having problems with NCS Fleet Command (NWP 19.01). I'm running it in Windows 10, with a quad core 3.4Ghz i5 processor and NVIDIA GeForce GXT 1050 Ti GPU.

The game starts up ok and runs for up to half an hour without any issues. Then it either stops working in gameplay or when I go for a game save.

I've looked at a number of previous threads on this and similar topics and tried some of their suggestions without success so far. I can't force it onto a single processor because when I come out of the game into Windows ,I can't get back in without corrupting the display. I get two screens in a weird resolution at the top of the screen.

I've tried using VMware Workstation 12 Player to load up an XP SP2 Op System and clean loading NCS FC. I can get the game to start but only in a very small window and the frame rate looks crap. I haven't applied the NWP mod.

Does anyone have FC working consistently with Win 10 and if so what settings or emulators are you using.

I really like playing this game, more so than CMANO so would love to get it working consistently.

Neil

In terms of running it in a virtual machine, I can run Dangerous Waters in a Windows XP virtual machine, but I had to either install an add-on package or configure graphical settings so it could run it. I'd look into that for Fleet Command for the VM.

There should be a way to launch Fleet Command such that it's only using one thread, trying searching Google for launching a program to use only a certain number of threads.

Hope some of this helps.

Thanks for your response. I managed to get the Win 10 FC to run on one processor. However it made no difference, still crashed.

I decided to put the original NWP database files in and ran one of the original scenarios. It ran for just over 2hours and didn't crash!

It looks like the db I was running is the source of the problem. Going to try a few more original scenarios and see if I get the same.

One thing however, I did notice these error messages, even with the original NWP db:

Air to Air:
Unknown keyword: {25,40}
Air to Air:
Unknown or Unexpected symbol; END
Air to Air:
Unknown or Unexpected symbol; END

Has anyone seen anything like this?

Icon1 Syntax Error

Hi All,

Just for the record the error messages were caused by a syntax error in the Doctrine File Airtoair.txt. The SET_TIMER4 {25,40} line should read as SET_TIMER 4 {25,40}, ie, a space between TIMER and 4 when setting the timer.

I think I downloaded this doctrine file from the SUBSIM site to others could have a similar issue.

Iirc I posted long ago a command-window solution or registry tweak to make DW run on a single core. Must be somewhere in the DW side of the forum.

Found it: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...9&postcount=34

open the spoiler button. Replace the executable at the end with the executable of FC.

Also, that DXwnd tool you (FPSchazly) made a video about has a check mark (compatibility tab) to run on a single core.

Icon7 Thanks Everyone

Been away on hol but tried out your suggestions and got them to work!! (eventually). Many Thanks.

If anyone still playing FC then Goals don't work with created objects in game. Bit of a pain.
