Default A question about this story...

With reference to this story:

I'm assuming a submarine evading ASW would be prevented from participating in a coordinated cruise missile strike (such as the strike on Syria, Saturday) for a number of reasons.

It couldn't just come up to PD and start launching SLCM's could it? Even if it had been ordered to do so beforehand. Some rules of engagement would prevent this right? Any weapons release in such a situation would be ambiguous to nearby submarines and warships.

A good point, and one I hadn't thought of. Even one submarine tied up in a game with Russian ASW forces is one sub not firing missiles at Iran, which is a Russian ally.
