ESM is a passive sensor that allows you to locate transmitting radars in your environment. The ingame representation is limited though.

Radar is...well radar. But seeing as it is an active sensor, it will let everyone equipped with an ESM system to know that you are there and zero in on your position.

Radar contacts show up on the TacMap just like the sonar contacts.

TY for the response and info.

One more Q.: What does the sensor on the periscope do?

Thanks.

Not sure what sensor you're referring to. The red bars at the top left? That would be the ESM signal strength. There's a ESM receiver on the periscope head as well, but I don't think it allows you to pick up contacts on the map. If the signal strength is too high your periscope can be detected by transmitting radars.
