Default Advice for an old Returning Captain?

HI there guys, (and girls)..... wait , let's be honest, it's guys! lol

I have been playing Silent Hunter since forever but kind of gave up a little with SH5.

Now, I'm thinking of giving it a go again and I wonder if you would help with a couple of questions :

1) What are the best mod-packs / UI mod to use these days?

2) Years ago, the 'hydrophone fix' required tinkering with the Ini files to make it work properly.... and it was, quite frankly, a pain in the ballast. I'm not even sure I ever made it work as it should. Is this still the case?

3) How have you guys been!? I hope all is well with everyone! any new developments? New things that I should know about as a long absent player?

Anyway, feels good to be back . Happy hunting!

Steve

1. TWoS mod is the way to go these days.
2. I know nothing about this, except you do not have to mess with it in TWoS.
3. Welcome back!

Not sure about that since TDW's generic patcher is part of TWoS mod. I do know there is a spot in the options file editor to select either the SH5, SH4, or SH3 GUI.

Welcome back!

I remember those days with the dodgy hydrophone fixes, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Well you've come back at a great time.

You only need one mod package now, 'The Wolves of Steel' or abreviated TWoS. Its top sticky on this forum. Follow Vecko's install instructions and that's it!. No more messing with mod soup ingredients or time spent fixing rather than hunting. The hydrophone works great and has a couple of surprises thrown in so make sure you use it frequently!

There's a tool within the download that allows you to customise your game to your liking, (TheDarkWraith's OFEV) you can select lots of options one of which is a choice of UI selection and so forth. Links here on how to find it and use it in the TWoS http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...postcount=2521

Give it a go, you will be impressed how far SH5 has come.....I am!

Hello Stevepine, welcome back to Silent Hunter and Subsim

Very good adives here above. In short: you don't need to bother with other mods when installing TWoS which I highly recommend.
To install TWoS, be sure to update your SH5 game to version 1.2.0 before.

For the Hydrophones, I know that Vecko (the TWoS mod author) has edited their data for them to be more realistic judging the readmes inside the files.
