Default Figured this out, now...

Finally figured out how to not be trasnferred out of Pearl as homeport(or Fremantle) until later in war. Just never liked that aspect of RSRD of being homeported in Mios Woendi when it was more a forward base for refuel and resupply. Same with Midway etc. Saipan and Guam were homeports in 45, so made this so in the flotilla.upc. Aslo have subs starting at Pearl Sub Base and "proper" dock in Fremantle, Cavite in P.I. etc. Please to release a mod for this soon.

Now, I want to restore an option from older versions of TMO where when you transfer from say Pearl to Fremantle, once transferred via the phone in office, must travel there, can conduct a war patrol en route as many boats did during the war. This will play a part in my "upgrades" to RSRD I am working on.

Anyone know how to restore this?

I also plan to revamp "New construction" from TMO if able. Upon completion of shakedown, call ahead to Pearl and then travel there(will add perhaps enemy submarines, esp once get them capable of firing torpedoes, along the way between Mare Island and PH) This will definitely add to the sim I feel.

Also, I can't seem to locate the 4 gig patch.Anyone have it?

Would your modification of TMO_RSRDC work smoothly with my pack?

You'd have a lot of UPCData stuff to change, but it's easy enough with WinMerge, Bleiente. He'd have CareerStart and Flotillas both changed, at a minimum.

Bubblehead1980, look in the Fall of the Rising Sun Ultimate mod, CareerStart.upc, and "[CareerStart 10]" and "[CareerStart 11]" are the new construction for Mare Island for a Gato and Balao respectively. Flotillas.upc has the boat assignments. However, I cannot remember if you get to drive the boat to Pearl after the Sea Trials or not... I'd have to look closer at the files, or do some "testing"... It'd be easy enough to add in Connecticut if so desired, using the Mare Island stuff as a model.

Yes i believe it would. Most;y it's a traffic mod, to bolster Lurker's great work in RSRD. I've went into RSRD traffic files via notepad and edited some convoys, upped the skill of escorts(esp in early war, so they are more difficult) Then I've added traffic to empty layers such as the "subhunter" files, so there are patrols around harbors and in certain areas, guarding places like Lombok Strait(which japanese patrolled heavily and Australia boats were forced to "dodge" them, quite exciting in the game when making a high speed dash on surface at night or trying to slip through submerged.Midget subs around Luzon and Southern Formosa in 1944(referenced in Fluckey's book)

I've also added things such as important convoys to their historical time and place, convoys missing from RSRDC such as the Take Ichi Convoy in April 1944.USS Jack and Gurnard caused so many losses, the convoy never made it to New Guinea to reinforce Japanese forces there.Working on early mid 1943 now, about to add the convoy that Wahoo destroyed in January 43 off Wewak( as well as the DD in the harbor.Plan to include orders to recon the harbor per history) Also added the big convoy Tang attacked off Nagasaki on June 24 1944. Added some key convoys the Barb engaged. Plant to put the USS Darter on the reef it grounded on and have a rescue mission or sorts. Plan to make the Narwhal's insertion of the Marine Raids at Makin a mission as well.

I've also added IJN submarines(plan to try and see if can get the AI torpedo mod to work with the "Jap Submarine" from TMO RSRD, would really add something.. Using some sources and going by year.I have every IJN sub lost arriving in the time and location so if player happens to be there, can engage them. Those intercepted because of ULTRA, would like to find out how to make the message appear at correct time and date so player is tipped off.

Still have some more work to do.

In the "troop convoy " layers that are empty, i've added a few troop convoys in each time period, they are rare but are there and heavily escorted usually by ijn sandards. The convoy that Trout engaged before being sunk by her escorts in Feb 1944 is featured.

I deleted the unescorted single merchants (except some coastal) after mid 1943, as Japanese finally adopted convoy system, unescorted merchants and tankers traveling alone in open seas is just silly, espthat late in the war.

Summer of 1944 home islands trafficon Southern Honshu begin traveling close to the beach(as Tang discovered when patrolling Area 5 in summer 1944) . So it gets challenging trying to pull off attacks on escorted ships in shallow waters, dodging patrols on sea and air, etc.

I'm sure could easily just add the revised traffic layers into your mod etc if youd like.

FYI, the "Mare Island" used as a starting point is not Mare Island. The subs actually start from what appears to be Treasure Island, which is SSE of Mare Island. and directly across the bay from SF. Mare Island Naval Shipyard, which was a major sub building facility, is next door to Vallejo; Treasure Island is midway across SF Bay, and is a connection point for two ends of the SF Bay Bridge. The flat, Western end of TI was man-made for (I think) the 1939 World Fair, and converted to a naval base sometime later.

As a footnote, one of my grandfathers was a mechanical engineer who designed periscope systems at Mare Island.

So, another misplaced base in Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific... There's quite a bit of that, on all sides of the "conflict". We'll have to look further into this...

Always bothered me that Subic Bay wasn't...you know...in Subic Bay.

Edit: Seems the Sub Base was at Cavite, got my time periods mixed up.

Interesting, was not aware of that.

Interesting (your grandfatheR), I am sure he has/had some great stories.

He did, but not about the systems he designed and helped implement. His name was Ralph Jacobs. He was injured in his late teens by being tossed off a horse on his dad's Montana ranch, and was confined to a wheel chair thereafter. Nonetheless, he trained as an engineer and graduated from the Colorado School of Mines, and subsequently practiced his trade at the shipyard. My ex had family from Montana, and she compared notes with Ralph one day. She mentioned her grandfather's name only to have Ralph exclaim "I knew George! He was a horse thief!" Kind of put a pall over the conversation. To this day she claims he was pulling her leg - I'm not so sure!
