IL2 seems to be the Holy Grail for this type of sim. I did like CFS2 a lot and still think it had some better qualites than IL2. But overall, IL2 would be my choice.

IL-2 generally, bur BoB2 has a MUCH better campaign IMO
If you had asked about World War I or the Korean War It would've probably been easier to answer

Yes, I was curious about BoB. Looks awesome.
I had Pacific Aces and enjoyed it for a while, (the flight model, fluttering, stalls, fantastic!) but frankly found the campaign mode and the looooong flights to targets, and to...nothing!? to be quite a drain....Has this been improved with 1946?

Well, the Pacific maps are enormous, so it still takes a lot of flying sometimes (Though with DCG they can be a lot of fun), but most of the Europe/North Africa maps are smaller and require less flying It doesn't take a lot of flying in Multiplayer usually too

IL2 for it's big list of flyable fronts & planes, BoBII if you dont mind to be able to fly only a handfull of planes in one battle.
