Imagine this...

Doing patrols in real time connected to a server with other u-boat captains all doing patrols as well. All connected to the same server.

You could meet up and do wolfpack attacks on large convoys, etc.

I dont know if this is possible, doubt it but I would certainly play something like this.

Flight Simulator has something like this where everyone connects to a single server and do flights in real time.
