Default Any good free video editing programs?

I've been wondering if there are any good free video editing programs that you would recommend? My camera takes video in the AVCHD Lite format (.mts). I really like that format. I'd like an editing program that supports AVCHD Lite files, but I guess I could convert them if need be. Windows Movie Maker just doesn't cut it. For some reason Windows Movie Maker refuses to save the edited video for me. I appreciate any help!

On this site you can find some freeware editors, you might choose one which fits you best. Personally I like avidemux and virtualdub, not sure if the latter eats avchd vids.
I would recommend converting the edited vids to h.264 though, as this format grants you compatibility/lets you burn it onto disc to watch in a hardware player. Basically a conversion to h.264 only removes the unneccessary crap which avchd includes, so there should be no loss of quality.

I've been using MoviePlusX3 by Serif, works well. I did buy X5 but have'nt really moved on with it like I did with X3. Why, I'm not sure there both same in truth only X5 is updated.

Note: if you decide to try this link and download, beware, Serif are intense and continually try to get you to upgrade, Hope this helps

I usually use camtasia studio. It's very easy to use but it is not free though.

I use AVS. Also not free, but it comes with a whole bunch of video, audio and imaging programs, all for one price. I bought it to edit a video of my band three years ago, and I use it almost every day, mostly for video and audio conversions.
