I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT BRITAIN AND FRANCE HAVE DECLARED WAR ON GERMANY. HAVE DECIDED TO WITHHOLD THIS INFORMATION FROM MY CREW FOR THE TIME BEING. OUR POSITION IS BF31, IN THE CHANNEL, NEAR SOUTHAMPTON. I THINK INFORMING THE CREW AT THIS TIME WILL CREATE PANIC BEING IN TOMMY CONTROLLED WATERS. WITHHELD WEATHER REPORT FOR NOW. WILL REPORT LATER.

02SEP39
1300 HRS
GRID BF26. WEATHER REPORT WINDSPEED 2M/S, SLIGHT CLOUD COVER. VISIBILITY TO HORIZON. 30 DEGREES CELSIUS. MY CREW HAS BEEN WATCHING ME CLOSELY. I SUSPECT THEY HAVE NOTICED MY ATTITUDE CHANGE WITH THE ADVENT OF WARTIME, THOUGH FOR THE MOST PART THEY STILL SEEM RELAXED.

FROM BDU: Clear channel as soon as possible. Try not to engage if possible. Much to shallow for safety. Once clear conduct AA and Deck gun drills.
