How do you get to the Mission Editor? Are the Editing Tools a separate download, or are they included on the SH3 DVD
I have Microsoft Train Simulator and all the editing tools are available when the game installs, with its own desktop icon. (These include The Route Editor & The Activity Editor) These enable you to build new routes & make up scenarious to run on all routes installed.

I am not really familiar with doing anything with SH3 and just rely on the Mods that are done by those who know what they are doing. But I would like to get to know how to use the various tools, if I can.

SH3 is similar, you'll find the icon in the main folder.

Amongst other things one should find A Chatham small passenger liner, troop transport, hospital ship, whale factory ship, CL Dido, CL Fiji and various other vessels.

One should try Reykjavik. The approach and escape is pretty hairy. Miles of shallows. Not much in targets though.

Visit in 42 and you'll find a lot of US military vessels.

Hi,

I have a little problem. I have inflitrated Scapa Flow, and sunk some sjips in the perimeter, but there are some huge battleships which I can't sunk because doesn't matter how many times I hit them, they are not sinking... they just lying on the bottom of port with guns and deck above water... even with hull totaly destroyed. So how can I sink them in a way that game actually will approve that?

GWX 3.0. It's like they start to sink. Some decks are underwater.... still while it stops on the bottom and it is not flooded totally I can't do anything. Of course I can shot from deck cannon, but their deck cannons which are not under water still operate and destroy me quickly

Jimbuna can jump in here and stop me if i am wrong

there are two ways to destroy an enemy ship in GWX (i believe this is actually a stock issue which GWX couldn't work around)

flooding is one way

-or-

eliminate all "hit points" is another

If a ship becomes 100% flooded it will sink and you get credit for its destruction

however...

each ship has a set number of hit points as well - say 100 hit points for a battleship. each torpedo hit detracts x amount of hit points (for the sake of example)

it is possible to take out all of a ships hit points - thereby getting credit for the kill even though the ship has not gone beneath the waves yet (it is cracked in half on the surface burning) this is why some tankers or other cargo ships will sit on the surface for an hour or more on fire - yet show up as sunk on the map... you eliminated all their "hit points" or "health" or whatever you want to call it and it is destroyed - but the flooding has not overcome buoyancy to actually make it sink yet.

BUT - what you are running into is a scenario where the ship has contacted the sea bed in very shallow water and a fair amount of the ship is still above water... so it will probably not "die" due to flooding as it cannot flood anymore than it already has.

theoretically, the only way you can sink her now and get credit for the kill is to eliminate her remaining hit points. this can be done by deck gun or by firing additional torpedoes.

i suggest you shoot another torpedo into her guts if you have any... if it is a battleship, aim for one of the forward turrets so there is the possibility of igniting a main magazine (thereby inflicting maximum damage and taking away the most hit points with one shot)

in the future - remember this: battleships have very thick armor belts to protect against waterline shell hits and torpedoes, if you shoot a torpedo at a battleship with impact triggers at 5-6 meter running depth, it will do some damage, and perhaps even do enough damage to cause flooding.

but if you increase the running depth of the torpedo so that the torpedo will pass about a meter beneath the draft depth of the battleship with a magnetic trigger - this can cause more damage than a direct impact and potentially sink the ship with fewer torpedoes

EDIT: if the ship has been hit and is resting on the sea floor with parts still sticking above water, AND the guns / search lights etc are still able to move around, shoot etc - you ARE running into an issue where the ship cannot flood any more than it already has and it also has remaining "hit points" or "health" - the only thing you can do at this point is inflict more damage in the hope of consuming all the hit points

Ok I did it! (HMS Hood). Problem was I had only 3 torpedoes. And as usual I fired them into different spots to do more dmg and sink it faster. On this occasion sinking was impossible anyway so... Well I just launched them all in 1 spot and it "died". So 3 torpedoes in 1 spot did more dmg than in different spots.
I see 2 explanations.

- 1 torpedo ripped armour and the rest of them did more dmg inside
- by luck I sent 3 torpedoes into weak point, while before that try lets say only 1 topedo hit weak point, the rest did normal dmg hitting different spots

No need to jump in....great and accurate answer

Would have liked to have seen a screenshot because you probably hit what many around here call the 'sweet spot' an ammo or fuel bunker.

Most if not all vessels in GWX can be sunk with one eel hit provided you hit the right spot.
