RULES OF ENGAGEMENT FOR NEW CONTEST

To make the contest more realistic :

1. A Kaleun should NOT be allowed to run all over the Atlantik to hunt for targets. He should stay to his assigned patrol grid or the grids next to it.
For example : If assigned to AN 11 he should not be allowed to proceed to AM 53 for no reason. He should be allowed to go to AN 14, though.

That means there is a safety zone around each grid:
In the following picture the assigned patrol grid is AM 25




The box defines the safety area.
Any sinkings outside the box , except enroute or return are not valid.

So if a player confronts a convoy in AN 27 and can not assume attack position before it leaves the area he should disengage and report convoy info to BdU.

Every player should edit his/hers patrol log entering the date he/she arrived to his/her patrol grid to keep track of the sinkings.


2. Any sinkings done outside the assigned patrol grid will cost 1000 points.

3. Sinkings done en route to assigned area or during the return trip are legitimate unless ordered otherwise

4. Grid should be assigned according to traffic and Uboot type.
That means we can not send a type II to Freetown or a type VII to Capetown.

So a set of patrol orders would look like:

U-45 IXC
January 5 1942
Patrol grid BB 91( a new map will be published soon)
Do not engage targets en route to patrol area.

So if U-45 sinks a ship at grid ED 51 then receives a 1000 points penalty


5. IMPORTANT
To increase realism , we will use the DID rule. (Dead Is Dead)
If you are depth charged to meet your Maker then it is all over.
No rejoin is possible.
So , Kaleuns think again when you want to attack that heavily escorted convoy in 1944 against all odds ......

6. There will be promotions and medals within the next contest. Following orders can be give you promotions and medals.
A great exploit ie sinking a capital warship can give you a Knights cross!

Understood. This one simple rule will make things much more realistic and do a lot to keep astronomical tonnage totals from happening. Good Work!
