A multi-mod test
Hi everyone! I recently conducted a small experiment with a few mods in SC/DW and thought i'd share the results.
a. I chose the mission "Iran to the Straight" from the original Sub Command. I made no changes to the mission other than converting for DW.
b. The mission usually plays in 1 of two ways. either the 2 Iranian kilos are slightly to the west at the start, or they are slightly north with one kilo shadowing a super-tanker. I chose to restart the mission until I got the first 'seed'. The east-most Kilo I refer to as kilo 1 and the western most kilo as kilo 2.
c. Kilo 1 usually cruises at around 12 kts (cavitating) and most often turns away and heads north or west at some point.
d. Kilo 2 always cruises at 6 kts and attempts to head south towards the arabian sea. Its the mission critical kilo.
e. Ownship is always 688i with TA streamed. In each mission I set course 275, 8 kts and 150 ft depth until I get contact with 1 of the kilos.
1. Sub Command with SCX II mod. Detected Kilo 1 at 4600 yds on the TB-16D (default with this mod). Kilo turned north, I launched an ADCAP and sunk the kilo. He only evaded at the last minute. I detected Kilo 2 at roughly 2600 yds on TB-16D and casually launched another ADCAP. target did not evade and was sunk.
2. Dangerous Waters 1.04 (no mods). Did not detect Kilo 1 at all. Kilo 2 was detected first on Spherical array at 1700 yds, followed shortly by TB-16. Launched ADCAP. Target quickly launched 53 cm at me and evaded. Target kilo sunk. I attempted to evade but at such short range, was futile. Ownship sunk by 53 cm.
3. Dangerous Waters with Reinforce Alert 1.35 mod. Kilo 1 detected at 17,000 yds on TB-23. too far to engage, target headed west. Kilo 2 detected at 3000 yds on TB-23. Launched ADCAP, target counter-fired a Shkvall. Target kilo evaded but was sunk. Ownship 43% damage from Shkvall.
4. Dangerous Waters with LWAMI 3.11 mod. Detected Kilo 1 at about 10,000 yds on the TB-23 but she turned north and I decided not to engage. Detected Kilo 2 at roughly 6,000 yds, launched ADCAP and sunk target. Target did attempt to evade.
Conclusions. Each game seems to have quite different detection figures, with the RA mod being the longest and stock DW the lowest. In only RA and stock DW did the target counter-fire. I can say from testing that the AI is RA is very aggressive and almost always counter-fires. In every test, despite target evasion the ADCAPs always scored hits.
