Is it possible to apply GWX to SH3 if it was downloaded from Steam? My buddy just purchased SH3 via Steam and I instantly recommended GWX of course, problem is, I've never heard of modding games from Steam. I assume it's possible, but does anyone know for sure?

Aye. I can remember my mother sending a picture of me at the age of 4, playing mini-guitar in a batman suit to the local newspaper when I turned 18.
