Default Just for fun, sink the destroyers first then the convoy

Just to had some spice, I sunk the three destroyers and then picked off the rest of the convoy with Torp's and cannon fire.

I used the stern tubes with 1/2 meter under the depth listed in the book. The trick is to get them "charging up your rear end" while at low speed then put it in to flank speed while they get within 600m and fire at 400m to 350m and quickly crash dive hard to a turn. Works most of the time. The convoy goes every which way, however returns to course after a brief time.

Sure gets the pulse rate up.

What mods you running? Sounds like you used the famed "down the throat" shot, which I used quite often in stock and the mods with less lethal escorts.TMO escorts tend to be smart enough usually to zig when closing in on submerged target.I get them sometimes when running away on surface after night surface attack and cant outrun them, will fire DTT shots from stern tubes.Want some real excitement? Point your bow at them, charge in like a game of chicken, fire at about 550-600 yards, then dive hard and fast, itll get your heart going.

It's funny, DDs always give a run for my money, but every once in a while, someone appears in this forum stating to have sunk tons of escorts as if they were harmless. Guess I must be doing it wrong.

Depends on what mods one is running.Stock were fairly easy to sink with a down the throat shot or even a standard shot if you got close enough.TMO escorts are tough as I mentioned they rarely come straight at you so DTT shots are difficult but not impossible.Mark 18's make them pretty easy to sink though if you catch them sitting still listening or following a straight course since they are wakeless and they RARELY detect them(if they do its by hydrophones) before they hit.

Congrats on the DD kill mate. It sure is a thrill to turn the tables on them isn't it?
As previously mentioned, the stock version is fun in this respect, but much less realistic. Heck, I was a DD sinking fool playing the stock version. Now, I don't sink DDs anymore. That was a joke, son (in my best Foghorn Leghorn impression). Get it, I don't sink DDs anymore? But I'm still a fool?

Uhem, oh well, I keep pitchin' 'em and you keep missin' 'em.

Anyway, I still do sink DDs but this time in TMO, though the situations are completely different. It's not easy in TMO, that's for sure. One small mistake and you're fish fodder, and that doesn't even account for their mudder. I think you can do it SNAKE. Why not come aboard TMO and join us for the big win? Hmmmmm, now where did I hear that before? Oh well, TMO ramps up the fun factor significantly by making the kill more difficult to achieve.

P.S.: Don't mind me. I'm pushing 48 hours on about 9 hours of sleep.

I've done that once or twice before. The first screenshot in my post one page 231 http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...08977&page=231 was the result of letting the DDs hear me on purpose. Even though it was in TMO 2.0 Three DDs went to the bottom of the Ceram Sea along with a majority of the convoy that they where escorting.

For the love of me.. Guys, the historic tactic was not to engage dds (this is the pre-war doctrine, being a scout, hunting only surface warships)... You're supposed to sink a merc or two, dive, let destoyers at it, keep listening to merchants, and surface, floor it, re-establish convo, rinse and repeat..

That put aside, when in real life threatning situation (like shallow depths and promontories), or cant evade amptly, this is when to tap-dance the escorts LOL)...

Respect,

I don't post much but Foghorn Leghorn quotes always make me happy.
