Default How does the sensors work?

Just wondering.. How exactly does the AI sensors work? I mean, early in the war all you have to do is to get below 200 meters, and you are safe. As we all know, this changes dramatically later on.

I have tested, and toyed around a little with the sensors, and put in more advanced sensors to the destroyers early in the war. Doesnt seem to have any effect. The depthcharges does not reach me, even though I installed a
Type147a Asdic on a destroyer. With that type of equipment the AI should be able to know which depth Im currently at. This was early 1941. Perhaps its hardcoded in the game?

After 1942, well we know what happens!
