Are we allowed to talk about the sound mod?
I have heard on the grapevine someone has made a sound mod for Il-2 even discussed on the official forums. Thing is for this mod to be done someone hacked the game.
Before debate is started on how good or bad it is is this a nontopic? |

I suppose it's no different than a mod for Silent Hunter or Dangerous Waters in terms of how dodgy it is.

On forums of the Server Hosters (Wing of Europe for example).
its a big No-No seeying some youtube video's about this the sound mod is only to be used for Offline purposes...Online use can get you a life time ban on some server as there will be a IL2 file check before you join.

Hi
I have been waiting for that topic showing up on this forum . I think the sound mod would have the same "status" as the modding that would involve dll files in Sub Command or in DW. To some extent it was done, but Sonalysts dissaproved and this kind of modding is not discussed or distributed openly in these forums anymore. Olegs sim Il2 is even more locked down, and with good reason I think. But in order to make the sound mod the sim now is open to modding flight data as well... good online flying will probably soon be ruined . At least that is my understanding of it. My guess is that Oleg and his team will take their time to seal Il2 code again in the last patch for Il2. But the sound mod overall sounds good, yes... But in my opinion it is not worth the price for the online community. One could always whish for better sounds from Olegs team though... Cheers porphy

And I was waiting for you to show up Porphy
J/k thats exactly , if you are fair. use it for offline fun. as online its considered a hack, but most servers check your IL2 files, so if you have it installed...you probally get kicked out of it directly... so lets not share any links where to get these sounds mods. I,m going to do some research to see what the file changes are in this MOD its a big shame that Oleg didnt use the real plane sounds, but in the end we just can hope he will use some better sounds then IL2 is using now.

Well....I don't want to sound like an evil person, but I did try it out(offline of course). It sounds excellent, amazing really, its just a shame it we can't use it online. Although there is a version that can get past the check run time thing, I wouldn't try my luck.

I just searched some IL2 related forums, and Ubi.com
and the locked topics on ubi.com and other topics on other IL2forums which are IL2 related say enough for me. What I know now is, it changes some files, yes but it also uses a hacked .exe in order to work(no no ) so it falls out of the terms of mods you can discuss about. as no mod is allowed to change the .exe so I change my opinion about this mod, as its more of a HACK then a mod as it changes files of the game which may NOT be changed. as the hacked .exe can be considered as a no cd patch... sorry guys, I better lock it.
