Usually, a modder who makes the playable ships will include some documentation of what you need to do for a career with them, and will usually have at least one "Quick" SingleMission with the mod. I do know that the Northampton is part of a pack, so you could find cdp44's pack, download it, and see if he has anything more to say in that. As for the "beta" Baltimore, I would assume, since it is a beta, that there is probably less documentation. Generally speaking, the playable ship "replaces" a submarine in the game. You can use any "Quick" SingleMission file in the game, so long as the submarine in the scenario matches the ship -AND- the scenario starts on the surface. You can also use the Mission Editor in the game folder to create your own missions. I do not know where that Baltimore came from that Bismarck uploaded, and apparently, he doesn't either. But there is a [REL] thread for cdp44's ships... found it!

Playable NML Okinoshima (US Side) / Playable ships (US Side)

The thread in the index is titled for the Okinoshima, but I'm guessing he changed it in the thread when he added more ships. There are quite a few downloads for playable ships in the Graphics section of the SH4 Downloads page. Someone (ETR3(SS)??) has a thread describing making or adding a playable ship / sub, which would help in "seeing" what you need to do to get going. There was also a team that had been working on making a mod with a campaign expressly for surface ships, but they have suspended operations, and only had an in-house beta they were working with. The problem lies in that it is difficult, if not impossible, to have other ships as part of your "team" (TaskForce) follow you. The game does not have that "logic" built-in, only "lone wolf" sub skipper... There is some "team" play-ability in the co-operative and adversarial network play, that if a modder could just tie into that... sigh... Anyway, you will have to do some "work" usually with a surface ship mod...
