Found A Photo of the USS Tawasa

My father used to collect photographs from World War II when he was younger. He never did tell me how many he had nor did he go into detail on them, but I found something very interesting today.

He had a safe that he kept all his mementos in. He fought against the Germans when they occupied Egypt, and he'd gotten most of his collection from there. Various items ranging from insignias, ammunition rounds, photographs, and even a helmet with a Walther P38. Unfortunately, I didn't learn of this until his death. Today, I finally managed to open the safe. I've sifted through the items, and I came across a photograph of the USS Tawasa (along with several others, but it's the Tawasa I'm interested in).

Can anyone tell me more about her?

EDIT:

It was actually photographed by Mr. "Skip" Tuttle and was sent to Mr. Arthur Fisher. Had a hard time reading the handwriting.
