i think it depends on the cylinders...
like if it was 6 Cylinders,
1.the two at the end would fire...
2.then the two in the middle.
3.and then the two right next to each other

...|_| |_|..........|_| |_|

please excuse me, that took a bit of work... but when i hear Uboat engines, i get a distinct 1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3 sound...so that makes me believe thats how they work.
