So if my sub has a loadout including MOSS devices what do I use them for?

Do I launch them as a way to fool enemy units into thinking I am somewhere else?
Once they are launched can their direction or depth be changed?
Can the enemy hear them being launched like a torpedo transit?I am wondering if my actual position will be given away by the launching of the MOSS?
