Indeed.

It also makes life tougher for the people like me who start in a Type IIA in September 1939!

The lower renown in GWX means I'll have to do a LOT of patrols in that 'dugout canoe' before I can upgrade to my favourite boat - the Type IXB!

Thank God for SH3 Commander and its 'Random Time Spent in Port' setting - on average this means MUCH less than four weeks spent in port after each patrol, as I would do without it. Normally I'm only in there a week or two!

By the way, thanks to everyone who contributed to the GWX mod - it's fantastic!

Just today I carried out my first 'realistic' convoy attack - yes, in a Type IIA! In a raging winter storm, and on the surface at night! (Could never do this in stock SH3.) Worked a treat - evaded the escorts, moved in very close to the tail end of the convoy, and hit three tramp steamers taking a battering from the mountainous waves. Wasn't detected until after my torpedoes hit, and even then was easily able to give the single corvette at the tail end of the convoy the slip, although he did make me dive. After reloading, polished off two more straggling tramp steamers which had been crippled by the storm and left behind by the convoy. Five ships sunk! In a Type IIA! My finest hour........so far!
