Default sub armor level

Just looking for advice from those who have modded the subs before.

Poking around with S3D looking to make the subs a little less tank like .I see the S18 has it's armor level at 15 lol and Gato at 12. Just wondering if anyone has any knowledge of how this plays out in sim when level is reduced. Just trying to save myself some time but definitely want to adjust this as part of my upcoming mod release.

Wondering if way to go would be to upp the hit points on the sub but reduce armor level(hit points are just at 300 on the Gato) . Thinking without armor, equipment inside would be more susceptible to damage(what am looking for) but with hitpoints upps, hull would be less vulnerable? The subs were strong and well built, hulls withstood a lot so fine with that but they were not tanks .
