The convoy route you are currently sitting on didn't really start to get heavy traffic until after the fall of France in June 1940. Until then most trans-Atlantic convoys out of Liverpool still sailed south through the St. George's Channel and then around the southern tip of Ireland.
In the beginning stages of the war, 1939 - to June 1940, there's not lot of ships or convoys. It begins to pick up after Norway, Denmark and then Netherland, Belgium and France are occupied by the Germans.
In addition, how long have you been on station? Sometimes weeks can pass before a convoy comes through and you can still miss it. That's just the tedious nature of patrolling with only eyeballs and limited information from shore.
