Thanks Eichhornchen. Sf '42 CDs seem a tad expensive these days but it's cheap enough online at Gamersgate:

Incidentally the mission in the screenies is an adaption (by modder Lockie I think) of the real-life action described here, in which Lt Zinoviy Kolobanov ambushed the spearhead of 6th Panzer Division in August 1941, a Red Army version of the Battle of Villers Bocage with a KV-1 instead of a Tiger.

I just played the mission again and this time there was no real panzer pile-up, although some of the Germans got through and I had to leave my nice safe tank scrape and reposition to assist a second KV and some infantry in destroying the enemy.

It was a bit of a massacre in the end, with the panzers and soft-skins smashed and the dismounted infantry mown down in the open, tho by the time it was over I had used up all my AP rounds and was left lobbing HE and even shrapnel shells at the last German tanks.

The second KV had a slightly less exciting time and the crew quickly unbuttoned to admire our handiwork.

Back on the causeway, the original ambush site was strewn with wrecked or immobilised German armour.

There are few things as satisfying in a tank sim as going for a spin in a nice big tank with lots of armour and a decent gun and smashing up other, less able enemies!
