I'm on my fourth character, my third "real" character as I consider the first one I did a trial run just to figure out what the hell I'd gotten myself into and how everything worked. The second (or first "real" character) was basically just a start-over of the trial run.

Current character has just finished a little adventure she likes to call "Stalking Ulfric Stormcloak." After the battle of Solitude was over, she decided to see if she could accompany her Jarl back to Windhelm (assuming he went there) as his official military guard/escort. Turned out to be tricky, as immediately following the battle he walked out of Solitude and then just stood there outside the main gate and wouldn't go anywhere as long as I was in the general area (got as far as the Haafingar SC camp, even fought and killed a dragon that attacked there and when I went back he was still just standing there). I had to fast travel to Windhelm and take the carriage back in order to trigger his actual departure from the area.

I had to do much the same thing several times early in the journey, either scouting way ahead and then returning or fast traveling to some known nearby location and making my way back to the last place he stopped. Or I would just stand nearby and wait in increments of one hour until he disappeared from the spot, then I would have to run ahead and try to find him. Fortunately the moveto command allowed me catch up if I lost him completely. I don't know if he is scripted to wait and/or "relax" in certain spots for extended periods of time, or if it's somehow connected to the in-game time of day or what, in order to make it seem like it takes him longer to get back to Windhelm than it normally would or because he's "supposed" to arrive back there at a certain time of day. Whatever. I made it work.

Did we have an interesting journey? Aw hell yes. Total body count when all was said and done:

3 horkers
2 slaughterfish
2 giants, 1 mammoth, 3 bandits, 2 frostbite spiders
1 Boethiah cultist
1 disrespectful Nord chick who shoved past him on the road down through The Pale and then went aggro on me when I stopped her to discuss her rude behavior
1 mudcrab that wasn't doin' nothin' but minding its own business

Coming up: screencaps!
