I risked my sub and my crew, crawling submerged and at night into Osaka Bay, via the shallow ship channel between the western coastline and island, then surfaced to run at flank speed up the bay - while carefully sneaking past sub-chasers and fishing boats. I then submerged to periscope depth at about 9,000 yards from Osaka, crawled at 3 knots, until close enough to photograph the poxy merchantmen, then spent the next 12 hours at periscope depth, or just under (because the water is so shallow) evading air attacks while trying to conserve battery power.

Once it was dark enough, I surfaced again and was able to run back at flank speed, only to discover a couple of sub-chasers were patrolling the western exit, meaning I had to take the easternmost exit. In doing so, one sub-chaser got a little too curious and I had to sink him at close range with a Mk 18 electric torpedo; fortunately, the other sub-chaser was too far away to spot me and started circling and depth charging in the wrong direction.
Meantime, I sneaked past the eastern coastal batteries, with my battery capacity running down to 15%, only to find a well escorted convoy heading up the Kii-suido: I had to lie doggo for another couple of hours, before finally escaping with my hide intact.





Should I sue Adm. Lockwood at Pearl Harbor for ordering me to undertake this mission...?
