Have you looked to see if he's using the stock game Campaign .mis files? Wouldn't suprise me that he didn't mess with them too much.

I used to play a lot with the IXd2 submarine, (pretending it was a Japanese I-boat)
, encountered the Javelin some times, but I was not able to spot any difference surely because I don't use the external camera.
