Stephenson may have built his first steam locomotive in 1814, but it wasn't the first, Trevithick beat him by a decade.
First US railroad opened in 1830 between Baltimore and a point on the Ohio river, at around the same time in the UK the first inter-city railway was opened between Liverpool and Manchester.
