There are three groups of crewmen on the SH4 Sub. Officers and Chiefs, Petty officers and non-rated. The first two are limited in the game, by default or two lines in the sub's UPC file. The RFB team has researched actual sub's patrol reports and have come up with crews that are accurate as possible in the game. There are no places for Yeomen, Cooks, Stewards, Electrician's Mates and Bakers.
Stewards in combat converted the wardroom to an emergency room and assisted the Pharmacist's Mate. Electrician's Mates were in the engine room with the Machinist Mates and the Motor Machinist Mates.
The rest of the crew formed the damage control team. If they got their Dolphins they were trained to operate and repair all of the boat's systems for emergency replacements. So cooks could and did replace injured mates and operated their stations.
