If you disliked crew management in SH3 the you may not like U-Boot the boardgame.

Crew management is the very heart of the game. I would say 80% of the time you are planning how to execute your mission. 10% of the time you are moving mini's around on the boat and updating the order track, morale, track, and the activations tracks for the individual crewmen. 10% of the time you are stalking a target and then firing on it or evading escorts and dealing depth charge attacks.

Of the orders and activations at least half of what you are doing on any watch is routine maintenance and/or repairs on the boat. Things like diesel check up. Electrical check up. Periscope adjustment. Torpedo tube check up. Your engineering crew eats up activations fast.

The board game version is really a logistical simulator and the resource you are managing are orders and activations. The rest of what happens are just events that interfere with your plans.
