This isn't a screenshot, but couldn't get one so...

May 19, 1943
Base: Bergen
Command: U-76
First career ever, 9th patrol.

Exited the base on the first of the month for grid AM48. Nothing good there, only contats those of surprised kaluens as Black May ran its course. My crew was getting demoralized when suddenly...

"Sound contact, merchant, bearing 209, medium range. Constant distance."

I rose the scope for look, saw nothing, and surfaced for another look. Harmless merchant, right?

NOPE!

I surfaced DEAD CENTER of a task force of around 10 DDs and the Hood.

Good news: First salvo from every ship missed.
Bad news: When that didn't work, the 25.5 k ton Hood rammed my 750 ton sub.

Bernard thought they were just a merchant.
Moral: DON'T LET BERNARD THINK! EVER!

This actually happened.
